Paulo Nazareth Keeps Hump Day Occupied

Paulo Nazareth, “Banana Market/Art Market.” 2011.

1978 Volkswagen Van filled with one ton of bananas (replaceable) and 72 photos, two drawings, two wooden placards and one cardboard placard.

On display as part of the Perez Collection, Miami, 2015.

Some of my favorite pieces I saw during Miami Art Week speak for themselves.

But looking at this piece I was reminded of visiting the Boros Collection in Berlin, where I always thought one of the funniest pieces of the bunker’s sordid history was that it stored Cuban bananas after World War 2. This piece almost seems like it belongs there.
