There was a period of time when I too had a life coach. In fact, I believe I had two. One of them found one of my recurring art prompts negative. At the time the prompt was to choose a letter of the alphabet, pick a blank postcard and paint down as many “crimes against” ideas from that letter. I loved this series as I found it amusing and fulfilling and it was a wonderful way to transcend the confinement of the pandemic.
But she challenged me to think in opposite. At first, I was a little put off by this unsolicited feedback, but then I decided to challenge myself and take it.
So instead of writing just “crimes against” ideas, I began spontaneously painting lists of “crimes for” ideas. At first I thought the crimes for lacked resonance and punch, but as time has elapsed, I feel they possess a lasting power. Is what we commit to more meaningful than what we’re charged with?
Crimes for blog posts.
