It’s taken me decades to appreciate my dad’s records from the years he collected working at a record store and then carried cross country. I had serious dad rock shame. But his taste was incredible! And my respects has finally occurred. The good news is he’s still alive to talk to me about the music of his youth and the stories surrounding them, including meeting my mom.
I was a big Stones fan when I was in elementary school, but then I found other music that was edgier and more danceable. My recent friendship with a songwriter has gotten me more interested in the art of songwriting – and collaboration. There’s magic in the Jagger/Richards partnership and the past few days of painting have been all Keith and Mick and thinking of rooms with views.
